Job Description

Position Summary:
The Clinical Manager for Birthing, Assessment and Triage, the Combined Mother and Baby Unit, and the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic (EPAC) provides leadership, supervision, and strategic direction to support the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient- and family-centered care within the Women’s Health and Newborn Care Program. Working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Clinical Manager is responsible for coordinating human and fiscal resources in alignment with approved budgets and organizational priorities.

As a member of the clinical area management team, the Clinical Manager collaborates with the Clinical Director; Chiefs of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Midwifery, Pediatrics, and Family Medicine Obstetrics; the Clinical Educator; and allied health partners to advance evidence-informed practice and support efficient, effective service delivery. The Clinical Manager also ensures that nursing practice within the clinical area is delivered in accordance with professional standards, the scope of practice defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario, and St. Joseph’s HealthCare Hamilton policies.

This role is collaboratively accountable for planning, implementing, and integrating initiatives that support the program vision and align with the mission, vision, and philosophy of SJHH. The Clinical Manager works closely with internal stakeholders, including Program Managers, Clinical and Department Directors, Professional Practice Leaders, interdisciplinary healthcare team members, and external partners to support program objectives and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:
•Master’s Degree in a related area is an asset
•Bachelor’s Degree in a related area required
•3 to 5 years as a Clinical Manager
•Regulated Health Professional
•Member in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario or professional college.  RNAO and/or membership certificate in area of expertise (Specialty Certificate)
•Clinical healthcare experience related to Women's Health/Obstetrical/Neonatal/Pediatric populations in ambulatory, community health and inpatient hospital settings preferred.
•Leadership experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
•Experience with implementing change in complex healthcare environments. 
•Ability to establish effective collaborative relationships with team members.
•Strong communication and organizational skills.
•Lean Training
•Ability to work with teams of varying size.
•Must be able to prioritize and manage workload according to project requirements.

Responsibilities:
•Contributes to the corporate efforts and initiatives, as appropriate, to enhance SJHH’s mission, vision and values.

•Works in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner.

Manages all aspects of Human Resources:
•Hires, promotes, disciplines and terminates staff as required.
•Manages employee relations issues, promoting a teamwork environment where staff can interact productively and efficiently
•Develops, implements and communicates performance measures, conducts regular performance appraisals of direct reports, providing ongoing coaching and feedback.

Performs quality management responsibilities:
•Leads the development, implementation, evaluation, and sustainment of quality improvement initiatives aligned with SJHH standards.
•Monitors outcomes, identifies issues, and develops action plans to support continuous improvement.
•Coaches staff to integrate quality improvement practices into daily operations.
•Builds collaborative relationships with staff, physicians, midwives, community partners, and other key stakeholders to support program initiatives.
•Applies knowledge of current service models, best practices, and relevant evidence to inform new models of care.

Performs corporate management responsibilities that support and advance SJHH’s goals:
•Supports corporate initiatives that advance SJHH’s mission, values, and goals.
•Represents the unit/department on internal committees and at external conferences, workshops, and community forums, as required.
•Supports project implementation, staff communication, and cross-program coverage as needed.
•Reviews strategic, operational, and steering committee materials to understand individual and team accountabilities.
•Applies knowledge of current service models, best practices, and relevant evidence to support new model development.
•Performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.
